Cathedral Mystery!
We began last week with two unsolvable mysteries. One related to the kitchen in Cathedral House which we were finding in a mess each morning with pieces of bread dotted around.
The second concerned the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and the disappearance of the white middle sections of the altar candles which link the base with the lighted insert.
The first mystery relating to the kitchen was solved after a few days after we discovered a certain creature was climbing through up the garden bushes and in through the window, helping itself to what it could find and exiting by the same way. The twofold remedy of cutting down the bushes and securing the windows has put paid to these midnight feasts. Even when everyone is struggling in a heatwave there’s always some creature ready to take advantage.
The second mystery in relation to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel has remained unsolved and we now suspect that the items were stolen off the altar which has put our security on high alert.
Could I ask all of you who attend the Cathedral during the weekdays to alert our security team if you see anyone acting suspiciously or in areas that are not for public access, such as the altar sanctuaries.
This Wednesday the midday Mass will be celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel – it will be a funeral Mass.
On Friday we are hosting a Diocesan Social Action Day centred principally using the Gibberd Room. As well as guest speakers there will be discussion groups for young leaders, racial justice and care for creation.
Next weekend our choir will be singing for services for the final time before they finish for the summer holidays. We extend our thanks to all those choristers who will be leaving the choir this summer for their years of commitment to the choir and the Cathedral liturgies.
There will be no rest for the rest of cathedral life after 12th July as the following week we welcome Hope University who will be holding their Graduation Ceremonies here.
