Artworks that make up the Cathedral’s permanent collection

Created by leading artists of the twentieth century, these works explore themes of faith, peace and renewal, and can be found throughout the Cathedral’s chapels and sacred spaces.

The Risen Christ
Arthur Dooley

Located in the Chapel of Mercy, these bronze sculptures by Liverpool-born Arthur Dooley depict the risen Christ, symbolising hope and new life.

In the West Apse, Sean Rice’s bronze and mixed metal sculpture captures the moment Abraham’s faith is tested and then restored.

Upon the High Altar, Dame Elisabeth Frink’s bronze figure of Christ, arms outstretched, conveys a gesture of all-embracing love.

In the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, this oil on canvas forms a luminous backdrop to the Eucharist, evoking sunlight in motion.
