Choir Chaperones
The beginning of November marks the final few weeks of the Church year and the onset of winter. While the current craze in our society this weekend is focussed on Halloween and ghouls and ghosts we gather to celebrate the many saintly people of every generation who by the witness of their lives have given us living examples of holiness, love and devoted service to God and their fellow men and women. The Lord is honoured through the saints and today we give thanks for the lives of these men and women – those of great renown and those who led ordinary lives in an extraordinary way – we call on their intercession and we seek to follow in their footsteps.
During this month we are encouraged to remember and pray for the faithful departed. Those deceased members of our families, past parishioners of this Cathedral, benefactors and all those who have no one to pray for them. If you have intentions for the Pious Lists which are place on the altar if you could send them in to Cathedral House or bring them to Mass over this next week. This Monday 2nd November is a special day of prayer for all who have died the Commemoration of All Souls. The evening Mass at 5pm will be held in the Crypt Chapel on Monday with the music of Faure’s Requiem sung by the Cathedral Youth Choir.
Next Saturday Upton Hall College have their Annual Mass for pupils, parents and staff in the Cathedral at 11am and the senior pupils of St Edward’s College will be joining us for Solemn Mass on Remembrance Day next Sunday.
Prayer for our Deceased Loved Ones
Almighty and eternal God, hear our prayers for those whom you have called from this life to yourself.
Grant them light, happiness, and peace. Let them pass in safety through the gates of death, and live for ever with all your saints in the light you promised to Abraham and to all his descendants in faith.
Guard them from all harm and on that great day of resurrection and reward raise them up with all your saints. Pardon their sins and give them eternal life in your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light come upon them. May the souls for the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
