St Edward the Confessor
We welcome staff and students from St Edwards College to our celebration of Solemn Mass this Sunday at the beginning of the week of the Feast of St Edward the Confessor.
Next Sunday 18th October is 100th Anniversary of the celebration of World Mission Sunday. Archbishop Sherrington will preside at the Solemn Mass and wishes us to celebrate this mass each year as an International Mass. To give this a truly international flavour one of the readings and the bidding prayers will be read in some of the different languages spoken by our regular congregation with the English texts printed in the service booklet. Out of many languages and cultures we are one faith and one body in Christ.
‘The theme for this year’s World Mission Sunday – One Christ, united in mission – highlights the unity of believers and marks the 100th anniversary of this global celebration. It invites all the members of the Church to a deeper communion in Christ and to a fuller unity in his divine mission of love.’ (Address of Pope Leo XIV to the General Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies/Missio, 1st June 2026).
In his message for this unique day in the Church’s year, the Holy Father says: ‘Your prayers and practical support, particularly on World Mission Sunday, will be a great help in bringing the Gospel of God’s love to everyone, especially the poorest and those most in need. Every gift, no matter how small, becomes a meaningful act of missionary communion. I renew my heartfelt gratitude for everything you will do to help me help missionaries throughout the world.’
