Justice and Peace
The Labour Party will be gathering in force in Liverpool this weekend for the start of their party conference taking place on the waterfront. Our new Prime Minister is no stranger to the Liverpool waterfront and was a recent visitor to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to watch Everton with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney – both Everton supporters. He will no doubt be too busy to visit us here at the Cathedral but we welcome any members of the Conference who may be joining us for Mass this Sunday.
Representatives from Christian organisations such as Cafod, Christian Aid, Pax Christi etc have formed a coalition named ‘The Just Peace Coalition’. Their stated aims are to work for justice and peace for all who call the Holy Land Home.
The Just Peace Coalition brings together churches and Christian organisations across the UK to respond to that call, inviting individuals, churches, and communities to commit to working and praying for a just peace for all in the Holy Land. For an end to terrorism and violence and the persecution of innocent civilians. This Sunday afternoon beginning with Choral Evening Prayer at 3pm members of the group will be walking from here to Liverpool Cathedral for reflections on the situation in the Holy Land. They are very mindful of the anxieties experienced by Jewish communities in the North West at this time. “We want to reassure everyone that the Time to Act campaign is rooted in a commitment to a just peace for everyone who calls the Holy Land home. In that spirit, we have made it clear that no banners or flags are to be brought on the walk.”
The RCIA meetings for those enquiring about the Catholic Faith begin this Monday evening. Those taking part begin a journey of instruction and reflection which will continue through to Easter culminating in reception into the church for those who feel ready to take this step.
