Security Officer 

An opportunity is available to join the Security Team located at the Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool.

This is a permanent, full-time role (35 hours per week), operating on a two-week Rota that includes daytime, evening and weekend shifts:

Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday – ON; Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – OFF; Saturday, Sunday – ON
Week 2 – Monday, Tuesday – OFF; Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – ON; Saturday, Sunday – OFF

Salary: £22,932 per annum.

Benefits: 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays (pro-rata) and access to a pension scheme.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining an effective security presence across the Cathedral, the Crypt and the surrounding grounds. Responsibilities include safeguarding the building and its artefacts, responding to security and safety concerns raised by clergy, staff or visitors and reporting any incidents or risks to the Dean of the Cathedral.

Applicants should have;

  • Previous experience as a Security Officer
  • Working knowledge of public safety, security operations and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety and fire prevention
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to diffuse conflict situations
  • Possession of a valid SIA license and/or CCTV license (desirable)

Please would you give us the gift of three hours a week of your precious voluntary time? Learn on the job for as long as it takes. Answer queries at the welcoming desk. Listen to the stories of our wonderful visitors. If you like, take a large or very small groups on tours. Give the job your own creativity.

Be part of a ministry of welcome. Add your own dimension to a large and flourishing team. Be a consistent part of your group throughout the year. Contribute toward presenting our Cathedral as a living Christian community, able to embrace everyone as valued individuals.

Make new friends. Enjoy a fresh challenge. This random list could go on!

Education Team Members (Voluntary Position)
Are you a retired or part time qualified teacher?
You could be part of the Cathedral’s Education Service team!
Come and help hundreds of school children  and young people to learn about our wonderful cathedral. ‘It’s a joy to watch children be amazed by the sheer beauty of John Piper’s lantern of light and colour and be able to bring the cathedral to life for the generations of the future’.

Cathedral Stewards (Voluntary Position)
We are currently looking for volunteers to join our team of Cathedral Stewards. The main role of the Cathedral Steward is to offer a warm welcome to visitors attending services and Masses at the Cathedral. They assist also by taking the collection, with communion arrangements, giving out service sheets and answering questions and queries from visitors. Stewards work most Sunday mornings, along with occasional Sunday afternoon and weekday services.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. No prior experience is required as full training will be given.

Cathedral Readers (Voluntary Position)
We are currently looking for people to join our Guild of Readers. Our Readers play an essential part in all our Masses and Services, representing our wide and diverse congregation. If you are confident in public speaking and would be happy to join a regular rota, we would love to hear from you.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. No prior experience is required as full training will be given.
