Chapter Mass

Thu 19th Mar 2026

12:15pm - 1:00pm

Interior of a large circular modern church with a high ribbed dome, rows of wooden pews flanking a long central aisle leading to a raised altar beneath a suspended spiky metal chandelier, blue-tinted light from tall stained-glass windows and colourful religious murals on the walls.

We welcome the Canons of the Cathedral Chapter as they gather to celebrate the Eucharist at 12.15pm.

The Capitular Mass is celebrated several times a year by the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter of Canons.

The Canons form a college of senior diocesan priests appointed by the Archbishop as his consultors.  The Chapter (‘capitula’ in Latin) holds regular business meetings led by the elected Provost, normally followed by the celebration of Mass together in the Cathedral, where each Canon is officially installed.  They also participate in solemn liturgical functions at other times and places, often wearing their canonical choir dress.

The faithful are invited to remember in prayer, together with the Canons at this Mass, the Archbishop and the local Church of Liverpool Archdiocese.

Please note, the 12.15 Mass will be transferred to the Cathedral on this date.

All are welcome to attend.
