Canon O’Brien writes, ‘Fr Stephen has his final weekend here at the Cathedral before moving on to take the reigns as parish priest of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Aintree.
He was supposed to have his last week as the chaplain of the Royal and Broad Green Hospitals last week but unfortunately he tested positive for Covid and had to isolate over six days – even missing the lunch that was supposed to be a celebration of his time here! We took a tray up to his room and left it outside containing some of what we thought might be his favourite treats, but it wasn’t the same!
I hope he enjoyed his last week here at the Cathedral. Over the years he has been at the Cathedral and particularly in his hospital ministry Fr Stephen has shown himself to be committed, genuinely interested in people, gentle and compassionate. We will miss him but it was inevitable that he would be appointed to a parish. I hope he will settle in to his new appointment easily and be warmly welcomed by his new parishioners.’
