11 July marks the start of a fortnight of University Graduations on Hope Street. This is always a very special time, and we pray for our friends and neighbours from John Moores University, Liverpool University and Hope University as they mark this important occasion in the academic year.
At the Cathedral, we are very proud to play a part in the celebrations along with partner organisations on Hope Street and once again this year we will be hosting a number of ceremonies and private functions.
Throughout this time there will be some minor disruption to services, along with changes in opening times. Details can be found below.
11 July – 15 July:
Liverpool John Moores University Graduations will take place all week at Liverpool Cathedral.
The whole of Hope Street will be joining in with the festivities as it is pedestrianised between 6am – 8pm each day to make way for the celebrations.
This is a great time to visit Hope Street, with street entertainment and festive promotions available in selected restaurants in the area.
Metropolitan Cathedral services and opening hours will not be affected this week and all are welcome to visit the Cathedral and Lutyens Crypt throughout this period.
18 – 22 July:
Liverpool University Graduations will take place at The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. The Metropolitan Cathedral will be hosting a number of private events associated to these graduations and as a result, the Lutyens Crypt will be closed to visitors on 18 July. Also, this week the 12.15 Mass will take place in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel on 18, 19 and 22 July.
