Christmas Message from the Archbishop Posted on Saturday 20 December 2025

Christmas Message of The Most Reverend John Sherrington, Archbishop of Liverpool.

Good news for us today.

The greatest gift for you and me. Jesus Christ is born in Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph watch every smile and tear. They hear the cries and gurgles of the new baby.

God has become human and shares in our life to lead us to heaven.

He cries out to be loved like any child. Thank God for the gift of the Lord Jesus, our Saviour and brother, for all people.  We sing,

How silently, how silently,
the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming,
but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive Him still,
the dear Christ enters in.

As we exchange our gifts, and visit family and friends, ‘the dear Christ enters in’.

A smile, a kiss, an embrace or however we show affection helps build his world of love.

Let this love grow and reach out to all people today.

I thank children from our schools who have given Christmas gifts to those who are in need and all those who serve the poor and lonely this Christmas.

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and blessings for the New Year.
