The Metropolitan Cathedral is now back open to the public seven days a week. Our temporary opening times are 12pm – 4pm, seven days a week. It will be a joy to see the Cathedral slowly come back to life, with the building once again resuming its role as a house of prayer for all.
You will notice that we have had to make several modifications to our usual operation and that is purely to keep you, our clergy, staff and volunteers safe. The changes we have implemented are based on current advice around hygiene and social distancing measures. These are detailed below and will be reviewed on an on-going basis:
Access to the Cathedral will be via the main steps. There will be an accessible route to the Cathedral through the Cathedral gardens. The lift will be not be available at present.
–
On arrival you will be greeted by a member of our Welcome Team, who will be on hand to answer any questions. They will ask you to sanitise your hands before entering.
–
We will be operating a simple one-way system around the Cathedral and seating will be limited due to the social distancing measures in place.
–
The Crypt Chapel, The Lady Chapel, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, along with all of the side chapels, will remain closed for the time being. We hope to review this shortly.
–
A member of clergy will be present in the Cathedral, and available to speak to, for much of the time we are open.
–
Some of our Cathedral staff may be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep both you and themselves safe during your visit.
–
We have introduced an enhanced cleaning regime, paying special attention to surfaces which are touched regularly.
–
The Cathedral Car-Park will remain open, but will close at 4pm. To access the Cathedral from the Car-Park, exit on foot, turn right and follow the paved ramp up to the Cathedral. Our parking ticket machine does not give change, so if possible, please bring the correct change with you.
–
There will be no access to public toilets.
–
The Lutyens Crypt and Treasury, Café and Shop will remain closed until further notice.
If you are not able to visit us in person at present, please remember that you can email us at any time to request a prayer card or a telephone conversation with a member of our clergy.
We will be announcing the reintroduction of public worship imminently, but in the meantime, we will continue to live-stream Mass each Sunday at 11am on Facebook and Youtube.
If you would like to support us on your visit, you will be able to do so safely using our contactless donation points. You can also donate online before or after your visit by clicking here.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our beautiful Cathedral in the hope that you can spend some time in quiet reflection and contemplation. We know that this special place has a home in your heart and we are committed to ensuring an uplifting and safe environment for all who are able to visit.
