One was the first ever choreographed Mass (music by Francesco Cavalli) where the prayers of the Mass were not only bought to life by musicians and singers but also by a company of dancers. The second was the commissioning of the first ever ‘Electronic Mass’ (music by Pierre Henry) with the prayers of the Mass set to electronic music.
These events are now celebrated in a brand new commemorative website
www.thedramaofthemass.com which has been created by Bill Harpe, the Artistic Director of the 1967 Opening Celebrations.
The website – which includes archive photography of the rehearsals and performance together with documentation from the original brochure, souvenir programme and press reviews – is a fascinating tribute to the Cathedral’s historic opening.
