Welcome to Fr Hugh Donleavy Posted on Friday 19 September 2025

We are very pleased to welcome Fr Hugh Donleavy as he begins his ministry here at the Cathedral.

Fr Hugh joined us in September as assistant priest and as assistant to the hospital chaplain, and we look forward to the many ways in which he will enrich the life of our community.

Fr Hugh grew up in Warrington and was ordained a priest by Archbishop Malcolm in 2023. His first appointment was in the parish of St William’s, Wigan, where he served as assistant priest. Now, just two years after his ordination, he brings his gifts and energy to the Cathedral community.

Reflecting on his new role, Fr Hugh said: “I’m really looking forward to working at the Cathedral and getting to know everyone here. It’s a privilege to be in the heart of the Church in the Archdiocese of Liverpool.”

Fr Tony, Cathedral Dean, said: “It is a joy to welcome Fr Hugh to the Cathedral community. He joins us at an exciting time in the life of the Cathedral, and we are grateful for his generosity in taking on this new mission. We look forward to supporting him in his priestly ministry, and to the many ways he will help us to grow together in faith and service.”

We assure Fr Hugh of our prayers and warmest welcome as he begins this new chapter of his priesthood.
