His Holiness Pope Francis appointed Archbishop-elect John Sherrington as Archbishop of Liverpool. Ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Nottingham on 13 June 1987, Archbishop-elect Sherrington has served as an Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster and Titular Bishop of Hilta since 14 September 2011.
He will become the tenth Archbishop of Liverpool, succeeding Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP, who has served in the role since 2014.
While we expect a full Cathedral for this significant occasion, there will be some unreserved sections available for members of the faithful. To register your interest and request a space should any become available, please email Claire Hanlon at c.hanlon@metcathedral.org.uk.
We look forward to this historic moment in the life of our Archdiocese and ask you to hold Archbishop-elect Sherrington in your prayers.
