The Jesuits recently announced that they were no longer able to provide a priest or brother to serve at the parish of Saint Francis Xavier and Fr Dennis Blackledge and Brother Ken Vance will be leaving after Easter. It is the end of a long association of the Jesuit Order in Liverpool. The parish celebrated  their 175th anniversary last year. Fr Chris McCoy has this week been appointed to be the new parish priest at SFX with continuing pastoral responsibilities in the Hospital Chaplaincy for the Royal, Broad Green and Clatterbridge Hospitals. Fr Chris will be leaving the Cathedral and taking up his pastoral responsibilities after Easter.

The Chapter of Canons meet on Wednesday for their bi-monthly Mass and meeting. They will recite midday prayer at midday before the start of Mass that day. There are two special days of prayer this week. On Tuesday, the memorial of St Josephine Bakhita is a special of prayer for victims of human trafficking. Then Saturday, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is a special day of prayer for the sick. Also in association with the Lourdes feast there is a Diocesan appeal for more adults to help as brancardiers during the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage. There will be information about this in the newsletter next week and Dr Damian Wilde who is a parishioner of the Cathedral will also be available after the Solemn Mass to speak to anyone who would like more information.
